The smell of oyster egg, char kuey tiao, hokkien mee, carrot cake, satay, rojak, bbq chicken wings, satay beehoon, stingray mashed together to produce that unique smell every crowded hawker centre has. Top it up with a large cold sugar cane drink and ending the night off with a hearty laughter. That smell, that taste and those sounds coming from a hawker centre. It brings people together. I would prefer this anyday compared to catching up at a cafe or some high end restaurant. Simply because in a hawker centre, you can laugh freely and etiquette isn't part of the plan. It's more than just a hawker centre, it's a common place where we remember.
